Why I perservered with starting a Brooklyn Chapter of the Holistic Moms Network

Without getting into too much detail, when Miles Storm was first born, it took a huge toll on my husband and my relationship. While family and friends were worried about me developing postnatal depression, it was actually my husband who took our Son’s arrival the hardest. As a result, during the majority of the first year I spent a lot of time upstate NY in Rhinebeck (at our weekend house) with our 2 dogs and our newborn Son. My husband works in New York City, so we would see him on the weekends. It was rough for me for sure, although I hate admitting that. I saw a therapist on a weekly basis and tried my best to navigate through all the changes.

What also helped me was the discovery of the Holistic Moms Network Dutchess County Chapter which is based here in Rhinebeck. There are other Mothers groups in the area, but for me being “Green Inspired” this was a God Send. I found support, encouragement and answers to many questions that I had as a first time Mother. On top of that, there was acceptance and interest in some of my “wacky” ideas. And, I say “wacky” tongue-in-cheek as to me it is normal, however in comparison to traditional parenting, it could be considered so. “Wacky” ideas may include bringing a child up vegetarian and not vaccinating your child. Or maybe, you are considering a water or home birth, not to mention hypnobirthing (now that is really wacky – ha).

At the Holistic Moms Network, our mission is to generate national awareness, education, and support for holistic parenting and green living by providing nurturing, open-minded, and respectful local community networks that encourage families to share these ideals and learn from each other. — Holistic Moms Network

Inspirational Vibes – Little Duck Organics

Inspiration – A divine influence directly and immediately exerted upon the mind or soul.

Today, I had a chat with Zak Normandin who is the brainchild CEO, of one of my favorite under-4-foot snack companies, Little Duck Organics. Zak is a Daddy of 3 who in the year 2010 started making healthy fruit snacks in his basement, driven by the fact that he could not find anything that he felt was suitable to feed his children (I know that feeling).

To me, this is INSPIRATION. Zak had an idea, which he followed through with and now, thankfully like-minded parents bringing up Little Tackers (Australian for infants) have a choice to safely buy a packaged good that is… WAIT FOR IT …certified organic, no-sugar-added, Non‐GMO, gluten free, 100% real fruit snacks!!! Wowzer. I know this is a BIG mouthful, but you have to read it all so you get the whole scope on how awesome it is. Let it sink in a while… It is hard to come by.

All I can say is, thank goodness for the day young Zak walked down those basement stairs!! Because now LDO is a reckoning force in the supermarket aisles.

Little Duck Organic HQ is based in Brooklyn, and I am so happy they are here. Besides being one of Willy B Mum’s biggest fans, they are always so encouraging and ready to help out the community in any way they can, and I have to say that is a rarity.

Not to mention Miles Storm loves their snacks, actually obsessed might be a better word? As an example – on his first day at school, a few weeks back, he was insistent that he take a packet of “Duck Duck” with him. And, as a chain reaction, his school (which was only serving cheesy goldfish snacks) now also have LDO as a healthier option. I am also very proud to say that my Son is not into chocolate, nor soda, nor chips BUT try take away his fruit snacks and you will have a fight on your hands!!

Little Duck Organics is launching a new super-amazing product in Whole Foods this month called “Mighty Oats” which Zak talks about in our little video shoot. Want the inside scoop, watch it here!

Little Duck Organics – Photo Shoot opportunity. Fun for the whole family!

Who loves Little Ducks Organics – me and Miles Storm do! Besides all of their products being 100% Organic, Kosher, no-sugar added, Gluten-Free & Non-GMO Verified (etc etc) – they have a really cool and fun vibe!

LDO is right up my alley being a holistic do-my-best for the Earth Mum. This is why I am very excited to announce to all the local Greenpoint/Williamsburg parents out there that they are looking for 5 local Little Ones to be photographed for all of their Summer 2012 marketing materials. It is a great opportunity!

If you have a little superstar at home who you want to put forward for consideration, please send hello@littleduckorganics.com a few RECENT photographs of your child, as well your child’s clothing size, their name/age and the best way to reach you. This is open for babies to children up to the age of 6 years of age.

If your munchkin is chosen you will be notified by next Wednesday the 25th of April (you are going to have to sit tight till then). The shoot date is Tuesday May the 8th so your child + one carer must be available on this day in Greenpoint Brooklyn. Shoot times will be determined, and Little Duck will send you more information about that as it gets closer to the shoot date.

In appreciation, Parents (and models) will receive copies of the photographs, a wonderful goodie bag of treats, some clothing from the shoot, an amazingly fun day, and of course lots of love from Little Duck!

What more could you ask for?
