Meditation and Motherhood

My passion for meditation came way before motherhood, or even way before I knew what meditation was, or even before I knew I wanted to be a Mom. But that’s another story altogether.

When I became a Mom-to-be, it became so much more valuable (if that can be said about meditation), or maybe I should say it became more desperately urgent.

We Love Klub 4 Kidz!

Being a Stay-At-Home-Mum in New York City is not always easy, especially during the colder weather. It is definitely not like the environment where I grew up in Australia where my Mother told me and my brother and sisters to go outside and play every day; you just do not have that choice here as a parent.

Why I perservered with starting a Brooklyn Chapter of the Holistic Moms Network

Without getting into too much detail, when Miles Storm was first born, it took a huge toll on my husband and my relationship. While family and friends were worried about me developing postnatal depression, it was actually my husband who took our Son’s arrival the hardest. As a result, during the majority of the first year I spent a lot of time upstate NY in Rhinebeck (at our weekend house) with our 2 dogs and our newborn Son. My husband works in New York City, so we would see him on the weekends. It was rough for me for sure, although I hate admitting that. I saw a therapist on a weekly basis and tried my best to navigate through all the changes.

Let’s visit the Prospect Park Wonderland in Brooklyn!

Last week, I decided to take Miles Storm on a day trip to Prospect Park, which is in Brooklyn about 4 miles from where we live in Williamsburg. It was a pleasant day, he’d slept in late (amazing as therefore so did I) and as a result we had missed his morning art-class meaning that I had to come up with another activity to keep him entertained. I have lived in NYC for 10 years, and Prospect Park has been one of the places I have always wanted to visit however it never happened – the same with The Intrepid and the American Museum of Natural History. Now that Miles Storm is here it looks like all that will finally manifest, as goodness knows I have tried to convince my husband to tag along with me for years to no avail!

Aqua Beba, we’re so glad we found you

As we have a swimming pool and a lake on the family property upstate NY it was a priority for my husband and I to start our Son Swimming lessons as soon as possible. I knew about the Williamsburg/Greenpoint located Aqua Beba Swim School and wanted to check out their vibe and do a drop-in lesson before we committed. Fair enough I thought? However, when I first called to inquire it was politely explained to me that it was a matter of privacy towards the participating families and as each group progressed together it was not fair to bring in curious-not-sure parents to observe a class. Well, the way it was explained left me no choice and on Word-Of-Mouth recommendations I agreed to sign Miles Storm up for his first semester of lessons. And, I am happy to write that we were so not disappointed.

Miles Storm meets “Franklin The Pig”, the urban living legend!

Franklin the blue-eyed, micro-mini Pig is one of Williamsburg’s most beloved treasures. He spends his days (when the weather permits) out the back of Crest Hardware in their gorgeous over-flowing Garden. Last week, I was finally able to visit him for the first time with my Son, Miles Storm. We both fell in love with the Aussie Magpie look-a-like pig! He was so friendly, and beautiful.

Let’s go to PLAY…. finally 20 months later!

I have planned on visiting PLAY since my Son was born having heard that it a wonderful place for early childhood, and today we finally made it… it only took me 20 months to get there! Time fly’s right, I do not have a baby anymore, I have a little boy!

The staff was wonderful, the place was very clean, bright and homely, although I have to say from all the pretty pictures and amazing reviews I expected to walk into Disneyland!

Traditional pediatric or a holistic pediatric, both works for us

Is there any other Pediatrician to go to if you live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn other than TriBeCa Pediatrics? If there is, I do not know about it, but considering they are only a few blocks from our apartment I cannot say that I’ve ever looked for another.

Tribeca Pediatrics has been at 212 Berry Street for about 4 years. They are also in the (New York City area) on the Upper East Side, Chelsea, Park Slope, Harlem, Greenpoint, Long Island City and of course TriBeCa where they originated 10 years ago.

Flying Squirrel on North 6th Street!

CHILDREN GROW SO FAST!

I am trying, my hardest, to sell some of Miles Storm’s equipment that he has grown out of and is now sitting around our apartment gathering dust – a gorgeous white Alma cot, a exersaucer and a Mamaroo! I’ve advertised on many websites to no avail. So when another Mother told me about Flying Squirrel as a great resource to sell “gently used” clothing/equipment I headed down to North 6th to check out the store.
