Nappies are a thing of the past – Thanks to Big Boy Super-Hero Undies, Lego & the Mail Man for that one!

Thanks to the Big Boy Super Hero Undies, Lego Figurines and regular visits from the Mysteriously Aloof Mail Man — Miles Storm is now finally out of Nappies and Potty-Trained

Before Miles was born, a forward thinking hippy friend told me about Elimination Communication.

Elimination Communication or Infant Potty Training is raising a baby from birth without Nappies (AKA Diapers) or at the least, using minimal Nappies. Having already heard about this, when my baby boy was around 7 months of age I noticed that every morning around the same time he had to go Potty, so I thought – Let’s try this Elimination Communication thing out.

Miles Storm’s Christening in the small Australian Town of Bunyip

Christening – A religious sacrament marked by the symbolic application of water to the head or immersion of the body into water and resulting in admission.

I was brought up, in my home country of Australia as a Christian, specifically the Church of England faith. I went to Sunday School often, and I was Christened AKA Baptised before I was one year of age; which is tradition. Although, I now consider myself a Pagan, being of a nature inspired religion, I still hold on to a lot of the values I learned during my time within the Christian faith.

The Day I was Born, written by my Mother!

The other day, Babes and I were talking & we stumbled into a conversation where I realized my husband did not know much about my younger days growing up. He did not know the name of the High School I went too, the suburb I lived in, the primary school I went to and how old I was when I first flew on a plane? At first I was really annoyed, until I realized I was in a similar situation. In particular, something that really bothered me, was that I had no recollection of what happened on the day I was born. I mean, I am sure my parents had told me many times growing up but like I said I had no recollection. So, I asked my Mum to put it down on paper for me and this is what she wrote.

My Son and my journey with breastfeeding is finally over… Sigh!

Two weeks ago marked a milestone in my relationship with my toddler Son. After 26 months since Miles Storm was born, back in September of 2010, WE have finally stopped breastfeeding!

I was beginning to wonder if this day would ever come, and surely my husband made a ton of jokes, that I would be one of those Mums who would be breastfeeding until he was at least 6 years old. Ha Ha – really funny Babes!

Two Years ago today at New York Presbyterian Hospital!

You can try all you want to prepare for the perfect pregnancy, but 99% of the time it does not work out as planned. I say 99%, as I have one girlfriend who went to the hospital on her due date and her baby was delivered on-time and exactly as the Doctor told her it would be. Since becoming a Mother, I have met hundreds of other Mums and I have only heard that story one time.

Miles Storm’s first day at school – What a day

So, straight off the plane from an amazingly wonderful 4 week family holiday to Croatia, Montenegro and the United Kingdom I am back full-swing into being a Stay-At-Home-Mummy. And, what a whirlwind it is. I am juggling insane jetlag, finally pulling together the Open House of the Brooklyn Chapter of the Holistic Moms Network, planning a 10 city marketing campaign through my boutique agency Honey Bee MGMT, organizing Miles Storm’s 2nd birthday, writing this Blog post, finding time to exercise and today deal with my little boy’s first day at school! I mean, there is just not enough hours in the day is there?

Visuals of my Birthday – August the 18th 2012!

Many many years ago, on this day, in the city Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, in my gorgeous sunburnt country of Australia I was born. Although I do not remember much of that day, today that is not going to be the case!

Starting at 10AM this morning, and every hour on the hour up until 9PM I am going to post a photo of what I am doing on my birthday upstate NY in Dutchess County. What a great idea, I wish I had done this for all of my birthdays.

Miles Storm unexpected first day at a USA beach

Today, as it was so hot, I decided to go and visit my girlfriend and her 4-year-old where they live in the gorgeous seaside town of Rowayton, Connecticut. Rowayton is around 45 miles from New York City on the Long Island Sound. It is a sleepy aquatic sailing town which is one of the most expensive communities in the United States to live.

Miles Storm’s First horse-riding lesson at 20 months of age

Today was a milestone for my 20 month old boy Miles Storm. Yes, he had his First of many horse-riding lessons. And, I am so excited for him. He really is a natural and so fearless (like most children)…. perfect perfect age to get him on a Pony! It is very important, to me, that My Son is around a variety of animals as much as possible. I mean, he has always had such a gift with animals that I really do not have to push him into it. When we both visited Australia (a few months back), at the local wildlife park he was able to walk free with kangaroos, emus and dingoes which he loved. I had to keep taking him back! However, unlike Australia, there really is not many ways to openly expose children to animals if you live in New York City… besides having the clich√© pets like dogs or cats! Luckily for Miles Storm, where I horse-ride upstate NY at Welywyn Stable also offers classes for infants. The youngest student they ever had is a little girl who was 15 months when she started, and now, at 3 years she is already post-trotting (raising up and down while riding). Pretty amazing right? The benefits of riding horses are endless – less allergies (if any), keeping fit and active, learning about and how to respect other beings, learning how to follow directions, improving balance and co√∂rdination, developing confidence and exploring freedom! And, learning how to properly care and feed an animal prepares a child for caring for others. All around, it is just wonderful experience! Welywyn Stable is about 2 hours north of NYC straight down the Taconic State Parkway in Milan (close to Rhinebeck). Classes for infants are $35 for half an hour and are more experiential than instructional. My Son’s lesson involved him first learning how to sit properly on a horse.. to feel comfortable, and how to hold on to the reigns. He was then walked around the barn with his teacher for 15 minutes. The rest of the time involved him watching how to take a saddle off and brushing the horse down. Horses are such magnificent, beautiful creatures and I also see this as a pure positive way to explain to him why he does not eat animals, and why his Mummy does not eat animals either! I know that he would be horrified to know that most lollies (candy) in the United States have gelatin in them which includes horse bones (awful). Not many Children know that by the way! Anyway, I cannot wait to watch the way Miles Storm progresses with his riding. It gave me such joy to see him enjoying such a beautiful thing!

So you want your baby/toddler to be a model…. This is how my Son became one.

I get a lot of questions from Mothers asking me how they can get their babies/toddlers into modeling like Miles Storm. My Son experienced his first day of work at 3 months modeling for “Babies R Us“. I thought I was special getting my first job at 16 years of age, but nope I am not as clever as him!
