Can I lose 10 pounds already…..PLEASE – My 2013 Fitness Goal!
I can personally say that it is a lot of work getting your body back once you’ve had a baby, I am still vigorously working at it.
When I first became pregnant I was around the 130 pound/59 kilogram mark. Definitely not the smallest I have ever been, but I was healthy and running around the 5 mile mark at the gym at least 5 days a week on a treadmill. During my pregnancy (with my now 2.5 year old Son) I put on 26 pounds/12 kilo, which I do not think is a lot? Maybe this was because I did not really get any of those weird cravings you hear pregnant women talking about like pickles and ice-cream! Either way considering diet, genetics and age, pregnancy weight gain varies from Mother to Mother. I have one friend who put on a mere 12 pounds and another who put on 90 pounds!
I have always been an active person. I like to be good shape, and try to live a healthy lifestyle to the best of my ability. I have spent the time post-pregnancy doing so, but my insanely fit husband always tells me that I have to take my exercising to the next level if I want to see further results. He says I have plateaued and am stuck in the same place not going anywhere fast etc. Yeah, well his words were falling on deaf ears because as far as I was concerned I was in great shape… besides my tummy area which obviously after having a baby is a BIG trouble spot for most of us Mummies.
This was up until a few weeks ago, around the 1st of January, when I jumped on the scale and weighed myself. I honestly was shocked to see that I was 140 pounds having put on 10 pounds I do not even know when! And, I totally understand that some of you my not think that this is such a big deal but – Wow – for me it is a very big deal. It is a lot for my 5’7″ frame and something that I am not used too, and I do not like it not one little bit.
To explain, I exercise a lot, on average around 6 times a week. Actually, I do not know another Mother who exercises as religiously and as much as I do. Call me crazy! I engage in a variety of high intensive kickboxing classes, the controversial Crossfit, yoga, horse-riding and long distance running (between 5 – 8 miles at a time). I work really hard. I follow a predominately vegan diet, meaning I do not eat meat. I rarely eat cheese. I do not eat eggs or consume milk or yoghurt products. I do sometimes eat seafood. My family is also very anti weight gaining carbohydrates so we do not eat cereal products, and only eat bread & pasta once in a blue moon. We eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, legumes and grains.
So why the weight gain you ask? Well that is what I am trying to figure out. I have a range of theories. One thing that I know is that my husband and I have drunk a lot of wine of late. In fact, I would say, wine every night since before Thanksgiving back in November! Don’t judge. It did not help that we were away together over New Years Eve on a family holiday and piña coladas and the like were a plenty either. I also just stopped breastfeeding, 8 weeks ago, and I have been told that your body holds onto a little weight for a while after you stop, I am not sure if this is true but either way a lot of Mothers swear by the theory? Additionally, I have been told by various physical trainers that muscle weighs more than fat, so maybe I have gained more muscle. Either way, I want to be back to 130 pounds, and one of my 2013 resolutions is to up-the-ante and lose 10 pounds.
One way I am kick starting this process is by doing a 5-day organic vegetable, fruit and nut juice with Blue Print Cleanse, which I have done twice before. If interested, you can read about my experience HERE. Today is the end of Day 1 for me, and I have felt mild discomfort in the hunger pain area. I am doing fine, and very much looking forward to all the benefits that come with a cleanse like; losing a few pounds, giving my digestive system a break from having to process alcohol and processed foods, clearer skin, mental clarity and increased energy. Yep, true story take it from me all these things really do happen when you commit to a cleanse, I know what I am talking about.
I took the picture above of my side, front and back body view of how I now look physically. Each month, moving forward, I am going to take the same photos to post on my BLOG and write about the progress of my fitness goal. I am determined, very determined.
How about you. Do you have a fitness goat for 2013, or maybe you have some advice you can offer to help keep me motivated?
