Get the Sillies Out with Yo Gabba Gabba!

Once upon a time, and not too long ago, on any given weekend night my husband and I would surely be out and about in New York City at a party, a nightclub, an event, or a bar. This was our life. We were hands-down the life of every party, and up till the crack-of-dawn with the best of the Partiers.

Of course, this was before our Son, Miles Storm was born and we became parents – things change so fast once that happens doesn’t it?

Where I am going with this is – Wow, I never thought that I would be heading out to Madison Square Garden to go to a Children’s Show as an evening activity. But, this is my life now and I Love It.

This Friday Babes and I took our Little One to see a live performance of his all time favorite TV show  – Yo Gabba Gabba! And a great time was had by all.

Yo Gabba Gabba has an awesome story behind it, being penned by 2 Fathers (Scott Schultz and Christian Jacobs) who were fed up with children’s television thus deciding to write their own. Neither of them had any experience in childhood broadcasting or early education, they just kind of wrote from their hearts and it worked. Thankfully, Yo Gabba Gabba dawned on Scott and Christian, as millions of children around the world are in Love with their brainchild, and surely there will be many more children to come who will also reap the joy.

Yo Gabba Gabba first went to air in 2008 and is now shown in many countries around the world including my home Australia. As well as, Canada, Italy, France, the UK and Ireland.

The show titled “Get The Sillies Out” was amazing to see – it was fun, colorful, upbeat and bright. There really was not a dull moment, and I had a great time jigging Miles up in the air to all the wonderful music. He really enjoyed himself, and so did I. Babes also loved the show (especially when Hip Hop legend Biz Markie hit the stage), however he excused himself halfway through the experience expressing that he had a meeting to attend, leaving me to handle the rest of the nights adventures. I wasn’t expecting that but I took it all in my stride and made everything still work out.

Once the 84 minute show was over I carried Miles (thankfully with the help of my Ergo carrier) across the Street to attend the “Meet and Greet” of characters at the Pennsylvania Hotel, where we had photo opportunities with the cast including Plex, Foofa, Brobee and Muno!

I mean, this was the maddest part of all as I was wearing 6 inch stiletto boots, carrying him in his carrier, navigating through the madness of NYC in Madison Square Garden, carrying bags and trying to take photos with all the characters so we did not miss anything! I was on a mission. Oh yeah, then trying to hail a taxi peak traffic to drive us back to Brooklyn! Insanity.

But, besides all of this we had a great time. Miles was in awe, he just could not believe his little eyes that he was seeing these guys for real. And, the reason I have such a big smile on my face in most of these photos is because of his reactions to seeing his favorite guys.

“YO GABBA GABBA LIVE Get The Sillies Out” is currently on tour across the USA. I highly recommend it, there is just nothing like seeing the characters in real life…. they are so TALL!

You can view all dates and locations at the YO GABBA GABBA LIVE site HERE! Ticket prices range at every venue ranging from $30 up per person.

Bonding Over Beauty with Benefit Cosmetics and Mama Drama NY

Ella and Libby AKA Willy B Mum

If you want a Mom out of her bed on a Saturday morning to dress, bundle, and deliver a toddler to the babysitter you better have a great reason. And boy did Benefit Cosmetics have one last weekend! Having the opportunity to hang out at a beauty salon with a free makeover is the siren song of a new Mom. Well, it is for this one. I don’t have time to primp any more, and when I do it is with the same old products.

So, I was thrilled when Mama Drama NY asked if I would join them for a party at Benefit’s flagship store in the SOHO district of New York City. Saturday November the 17th was going to be a fun day. I was informed that this was an event for the younger crowd; bloggers bringing their teens to a world where they could find natural beauty kicked up a notch. That’s what I found there, however, if you want to dazzle someone at Eleven AM in the morning you don’t bring out a carafe of coffee!

Benefit Product Willy B Mum cannot live with out – High Beam – used on the cheeks for highlights & immediate shimmer!

No…you give them unlimited amount of great champagne, eyes and skin that pop and wonderful conversation. As I’m one of the bloggers without a child old enough for a makeover I took a back seat to all the excited teens. I watched as their skin tones were perfectly matched by the experts at Benefit; their skin glowed and their eyes popped as they admired themselves in the mirrors. It was very sweet to see them look at their newly made up mothers with critical and approving, lightly mascaraed eyes. I see why Mama Drama NY used the Bonding Over Beauty message. They hit it out of the park. Even sans child I bonded over beauty, too.

Loving the VIBE at the Benefit Beauty Bar on West Broadway in SOHO

I also met Ms. Willy B Mum at the event and we became super-glued. There was talk of makeup, beauty treatments, breastfeeding, babies, and blogs. It’s the kind of thing you would normally discuss when the nail polish was drying, but remember that champagne? Yup. It happens to be the thing I must need on a brisk Saturday morning to get me to open up so quickly. Of course, any Mom of a toddler also loves talking about her wee-one and so we were off to the races discussing how we are managing our careers and our children. We talked for what must have been a while because soon it was time for my marvelous makeover and when it finished (quickly I assure you), the place was clearing out, and goodie-bags were disappearing. Time Flies When You’re Having Fun Ella!!!

Champagne and Make-Up .. GENIUS!

I loved my day with Mama Drama NY. The store, located at 454 W Broadway, is beautifully decorated with wonderful sayings about natural beauty adorning the walls, the staff were all smiles and kept us bloggers moving while making us feel beautiful, and I swear I’ve saved the best for last. The makeup was a hit with me! The foundation made my skin so smooth and my look throughout the day caught much attention. So thanks, Mama Drama and Benefit, for making my early Saturday morning so worth every gorgeous moment.

I have to agree with all of what Miss Ella wrote here, and I do want to also mention that I have a very personal connection with San Francisco born Benefit Cosmetics, as it is my hands-down favorite make-up company. Thank goodness for the twin sisters Jane and Jean who co-founded the fun quirky, and such the unique Benefit Cosmetics – there is nothing else out there like it! I have been a huge fan since I first moved to NYC over 10 years ago now (can you tell) so I was beyond excited to be invited to this event. Read More Willy B Mum

My Son and my journey with breastfeeding is finally over… Sigh!

Two weeks ago marked a milestone in my relationship with my toddler Son. After 26 months since Miles Storm was born, back in September of 2010, WE have finally stopped breastfeeding!

I was beginning to wonder if this day would ever come, and surely my husband made a ton of jokes, that I would be one of those Mums who would be breastfeeding until he was at least 6 years old. Ha Ha – really funny Babes!

I have to say that I never thought that I would breastfeed at all, let alone for this long, but isn’t it interesting the changes that happen once you become a Mother? When I was younger, I was scared of what breastfeeding would do to my body after hearing horror stories of how afterwards you have saggy boobs hanging to the floor – guaranteed. If I ever became pregnant, (I absolutely swore naïvely to anybody that would listen), breastfeeding was not an option.

However, once pregnant, that quickly changed to No Way would I ever feed my baby milk that has been tainted with steroids, chemicals and was artificially fortified. Not to mention from another species – yes, I know, I did a total 360 here didn’t I?

So how did it happen? Well, I guess, for me I just became a little fed-up with having to breastfeed my Son as soon as he woke up and to put him to sleep every night. It suddenly became a huge toll on my body mentally and physically, and I was feeling chained to a heavy ball. I know that may sound horrible, but it is the only way I can describe it – towards the end that is exactly how I was starting to feel.

My Son is a big boy now, and I did not feel comfortable being the “be all end all” for him anymore.

My husband wasn’t much help either, whenever Miles would become upset he would say – “Just give him some milk”.  I mean it is okay for him to say!

Two weekends ago, I kind-of-just cracked and I told my Son when he asked for milk (which he affectionately calls Nilk) that Mummy did not have any Nilk anymore and that it was empty and finished. To which he surprisingly replied “Okay Mummy”.

And, as simple as that it stopped. He has asked 2 times since then for Nilk and I have firmly told him again it was finished and empty!

Wow….. all these years that went by with me trying to figure out in my little head how the end was going to happen. I was so unsure of how it was all going to go down, and besides having hard-as-rock boobs for around 10 days and being in extreme pain, I made it through the other side.

And, so did Miles Storm. He is now that little more independent and ready to step-up-to-the-plate on his next challenge.

Oh, the joys of being a First Time Mum!

Something Wonderful happened in New York last night…. yes the the magical Land Of Nod opened in SOHO!

Something magical happened in New York City last night – right bang smack in the middle of a snow blizzard – my favorite children’s store, The Land of Nod, opened as a Pop-Up in SOHO downtown Manhattan.

And, I am beyond excited!

I am fortunate to have been invited to the official opening, and I have to tell you it was crazy out. It was a full-blown freezing cold blizzard but that did not stop me. I was going to get there no matter what!

Most people probably would have stayed home under the circumstances, but I was so excited to have a first peak…

To explain; when I was pregnant, I spent hours setting up my baby registry on the LON website, and was so happy when I started receiving gifts for my then baby boy. I did secretly wish though, that I could walk into the store, feel the materials & see the colors in person so actually having the opportunity to do this was a dream come true.

Up until last week, New Yorkers could only buy from The Land of Nod by ordering online, through their catalogue or physically visiting one of their brick and mortar stores in Chicago or Seattle. But not anymore!

The SOHO location is a beautiful whimsical space, set up like an enchanted forest, stocked to the brim with unique toys, books, festive decorations, clothing and play tents. Giant stuffed animals greet you looking out through the window, and they have this really cool photo wall which you can have your picture taken in (like me).

Besides being a gorgeous toy store, The Land of Nod, have a pretty busy event schedule offering free workshops to keep Little Ones entertained like Face Painting, Festive Storytime and DIY Arts & Crafts. I probably don’t need to write this but I plan on taking my 2-year-old Son to as many as possible.

If you are in the SOHO area,  Stop By & Say Hello, but hear Words Of Warning, Do not Expect To Leave Empty-Handed! I think it would be near impossible to walk in and leave without buying something.

The Land of Nod is open Monday – Saturday 10AM to 8PM and Sunday 10AM to 7PM. Located at 136 Prince Street between Wooster and West Broadway in downtown NYC.

At this time the store is planned to close on December 31st 2012, but maybe, if we are lucky, and make them feel really welcome, The Land Of Nod will stay in our beautiful city for good.

I would Love That!
